A will that satisfies your faith and your state

Wassiya writes a complete will from your family and your wishes: the Qur’anic shares worked out exactly, the discretionary third allocated as you choose, a guardian named for your children, and instructions for signing it properly in your state.

Where this stands today

The will is complete and it is not yet signable. No attorney has reviewed the clauses and no scholar has certified the calculations, so every document comes out watermarked as a draft — something to take to a lawyer, not to sign. That review is the work in front of us, and the watermark comes off when it is done, not before.

Why an Islamic will is harder than it sounds

A will that tells the court to “distribute my estate according to Islamic law” is routinely held void. Deciding what that phrase means would require a judge to rule on a question of religion, so the instruction fails for vagueness — and the estate then passes under the state’s default rules instead, which is the exact outcome the family was trying to avoid.

A will that works has to state the shares as plain fractions, naming each person. Producing those fractions is arithmetic most people cannot do by hand: the shares can over-subscribe the estate or fall short of it, and each case has its own correction. That computation is what this is for. The religious reasoning goes in a preamble that disposes of nothing; the religious result goes in the operative clauses as arithmetic a court will enforce.

Exact, not approximate

Every share is a whole number over a whole number. Nothing is rounded until it is shown to you, and the percentages are made to total exactly 100.

Nothing is stored

Everything runs in your browser. Your family details are never sent to a server, because there is no server to send them to.

It shows its working

Every share comes with the reason for it. Where the schools of law differ, you are told, shown both answers, and can choose.

Two things a will cannot fix

Worth knowing before you start, because no document solves either one. In most states a surviving spouse can claim a statutory share against a will no matter what it says — the durable answer is a written waiver, which is a separate document and needs a lawyer.

And retirement accounts and life insurance pass by beneficiary designation, never entering the estate at all. For many families that is most of what they own, so a perfect will over the remainder is a false comfort. Those forms have to be changed directly with each institution.

Check the work yourself

Software that tells you how to divide an inheritance should be willing to show its reasoning. The Method page states every rule applied and the order it is applied in. The Corpus lists every worked case with the shares that result, in plain words, so that a scholar can check it and say where it is wrong.
